Questions and Answers on Men's Group Spiritual Direction:
What is Group Spiritual Direction?
Group Spiritual direction is a simple process in which a small group of guys gather together on a regular basis to focus upon and assist one another in finding and following the voice of God in their lives. The simple process allows each man to share their experiences, listen with the prayerful support of each other and receive deeper insight and encouragement into how God might be leading and guiding them in the ordinary events of their life.
How Many Men Are in Each Group?
Groups are limited to 5 – 7 members with a facilitator.
How Often Does the Group Meet?
Most groups gather for an initial introduction meeting to discuss, ask questions and experience this model of group spiritual direction so that each man can determine if this is something that would be helpful to him. Once the group is formed, the group determines how often it wants to meet. Most groups typically meet once a month; however, some groups have opted to meet twice a month.
What Time and Where Does the Group Meet?
Each group will typically meet from 6:30 – 9 PM on a specific day of the month. However, once formed, the group will determine what day and time works best for the members.
Is There a Cost?
Men’s group spiritual direction is designed to be an ecumenical group of men from all faith traditions. The groups usually meet at Dominican Center at Marywood located at 2025 Fulton Street, Grand Rapids, MI 49503-3898, unless the group decides upon an alternate location.
The Dominican Center requests a small stipend of $10.00 per meeting to use the room. This cost can be shared on a voluntary basis by the group members. There are no other fees or costs.
